I sold my soul to Ikea

I unofficially swore off Ikea and all its evil big-box monotony years ago, but damn, they've got the best kids stuff. In the spirit of corporate whore buying, I loaded up on storage solutions, tunnels, tents, carts and all kinds of other gizmos and what-nots. I think the kids are equally in love with the place. Touch, feel, and play is a heavily facilitated concept. Everyone's a winner. Except for the local mom and pop joint.

try to tell me how to do it
only because i'm new to it

courage to do what's right

nothing ever happens on mars

today was boring...boring...boring...boring.

i-ron and whine

Saw Iron and Wine (Sam Beam solo) at Wheaton College's Edman Chapel a few weeks ago. Strange venue. It was more like an auditorium and kinda reminded me of the huge venues uber-evangelists are often seen in. (Fitting, the Billy Graham Center is right on campus.) Just added more commentary to the often ironic (perhaps misunderstood by the Wheaton College organizers of this show??) religious symbolism Sam sprinkles into his music. Sam started the show by telling the audience he was asked by the college not to curse while performing. So, he explained that he would just leave a pause whenever a swear was to be emitted. Chuckles all around; you can pretty much guess how that ended up. Kinda came across as a polite choir boy with a mischievous grin. The crowd was pretty subdued but totally eager. Once the awkwardness of the whole thing wore off Sam seemed to be loving it. He said, "who knew going to church could be so much fun." Overall, a solid show; I left feeling warm-hearted and amused. *sigh*...I love that man.
